Key Takeaways

  • LoopString is cloud-hosted — no self-hosting, no servers to manage
  • Edge-first PID control runs on the Pi even without internet connectivity
  • Guided Pi onboarding via QR code — no SSH or terminal required
  • Tailscale VPN tunnel for secure remote Pi access without open ports
  • Transparent per-device pricing with a free tier — no surprise usage bills

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data mine or does LoopString own it?
Your data is yours. Sensor readings, device configs, and automation flows belong to your account. You can export data at any time. LoopString does not sell data to third parties.
Can I migrate from another IoT platform to LoopString?
Yes. If you are running Node-RED on a Pi today, your flows can be imported into the LoopString Configurator. For other platforms, sensor wiring stays the same — you only change the software layer on the Pi.
Is LoopString self-hostable?
The current version is a managed cloud SaaS platform. The edge automation layer (Node-RED flows on the Pi) runs locally, so your control logic is never dependent on cloud availability. A self-hosted option is on the roadmap.
