Wireless temperature monitoring system
Monitor temperature across your whole facility from one dashboard, get alerted the moment something drifts, and keep an audit-ready record — with monitoring and logging that run on-site and keep going even when the internet does not.
LoopString is the software and edge platform. A Raspberry Pi reads your probes locally; you read them wirelessly from anywhere over a secure Tailscale link.
Built for the places temperature matters most
Cold storage & walk-in coolers
Monitor every cooler and freezer from one dashboard with per-room limits, and get a threshold alert within seconds of a temperature excursion — plus HACCP/FDA-style logged history for audits.
Cold storage monitoring →Greenhouses & grow rooms
Track canopy and ambient temperature alongside humidity and VPD, and drive vents, fans, and heaters on the Pi. Setpoints follow the crop through the day.
Greenhouse monitoring →Fermentation & cold chain
Hold fermenter temperature with an on-Pi control loop, log the curve for every batch, and alert if a ferment drifts — for beer, wine, or cultured foods.
Fermentation monitoring →Supported temperature hardware
Pick the probe for your accuracy and environment. LoopString reads all of these on a Raspberry Pi and shows them live — no per-sensor coding.
DS18B20 (1-Wire)
Waterproof probe, the workhorse for tanks, coolers, and thermowells.
PT100 / PT1000 RTD
High-accuracy resistance probes for process and lab duty.
Thermocouples (K-type via MAX31855)
Wide-range for roasting, stills, and industrial heat.
SHT3x / SHT40 / AM2320 (I²C)
Combined temperature + humidity for climate control.
Frequently asked questions
- Is LoopString a wireless temperature monitoring system?
- LoopString is the software and edge platform. A Raspberry Pi reads wired temperature probes locally, and the "wireless" part is the network link: the browser reads live readings from the Pi over Wi-Fi/Ethernet via Tailscale, from anywhere. So you get remote, wireless access to sensors that are wired to the device for accuracy and reliability.
- What temperature sensors does it support?
- The Parts Library includes DS18B20 (1-Wire waterproof probes), PT100/PT1000 RTDs, K-type thermocouples via MAX31855, and combined temperature/humidity sensors like SHT3x, SHT40, and AM2320. You pick the probe for your accuracy and environment; the Configurator wires it into a flow for you.
- How fast will it alert me to a temperature excursion?
- Threshold alerts fire within seconds of a reading crossing the limit you set, over the channels you configure. Monitoring and logging run on the on-site Pi, so they continue even if your internet drops; alert notifications (email/SMS/push) send from the cloud, so during an outage they queue and deliver as soon as the connection returns, along with the buffered history.
- Does it keep records for compliance?
- Yes. Timestamped temperature history is stored durably in the cloud and can be exported as HACCP/FDA/USDA-style reports, with alert events carrying acknowledgement trails. The second-by-second monitoring stays on the device; the cloud holds the rolled-up record.
